Learning Styles

Hi everyone, welcome to another entry!馃槑

After having a short break and a very much needed vacation I'm back posting on my blog馃構

The week before our our break we reviewed the topic Learning Styles.

If I thought Multiple Intelligences were intersting this topic was even more interesting, I had no idea there were even more things that help people learn and a category that everyone can fit into when it comes to how they prefer to learn.

We learned that this preference on learning is the input and the preference on expressing how we feel is the output, meaning, Multiple Intelligences.

Then we learned about the VARK model created by Neil Fleming and Christopher Mills in 1992.

We can define learning styles as the strategies we learners use to internalize something.

This is what each letter of VARK stands for:

Visual: This learners prefer to internalize information through picturesm diagrams, they use charts, note, maps and flash cards.

Auditory: They prefer spoken information, reading out loud and back ground music for studying.

Kinesthetic: They learn trough touching things write down important facts and role-playing can help them remember important ideas.

Read and write: The like "to do" lists, they remember information displayed as words and prefers dictionaries.

I took two VARK tests and here are my results!

According to the tests, I have a mix of a visual and a kinesthetic learning and I totally agree, it was really nice how we all took the test and we were able to compare our results with everyone else, I really like the fact how everyone learns in a different way and everyone does whatever works for them and whatever is best.

We have different learning styles but we have an awesome team work!

On Thursday's class, teacher Orlando asked us to create a class activity for every type of learner so we had to come up with a topic that we could teach and different ways to do it and then we had to present it to the class. My group came up with the whole thing really quickly since Nathaly had experience as an English teacher for kids, our topic was "Parts of a house" we started from there and everything started to flow naturally.

Here is Mauricio spying on us馃槀

Miriam and Nathaly are the creative minds of the group馃榿

Mar铆a was too concentrated on drawing Kirby on the board馃樄

I took selfies while the girls were working馃槀

And this was the finished product!!

On the week after the break we had to present it to the class, we basically explained how we would use flash cards for the visual learners so the drawing and the colors would be appealing for them, for auditory learners we came up with repetition drills and how they can learn the parts of a house by repeating and listening, for the reading and writing learners we thought it was a good idea for them to make a list of what are the parts of a house or even write a story for everyone else to read after and for the kinesthetic learners who are all about working with their hands we came up with the model of a house so they can create however they want with different figures, colors, paper, markers and they can present their handmade house to the class, all of this while applying the collaborative approach.

Here is a picture a paparazzi in the classroom took of me馃槣

This entry had a lot of content since we split the topic in two weeks due to the break, but I hope you enjoyed reading it and I hope I was able to make a good summary of all the information and I hope I didn't miss anything. Thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for the next entry, bye-bye!馃憢
