Community Language Learning

 Hi everyone! And welcome to another entry😁

Today I will be explaining the Community Language Learning method that we studied last Thursday and one of the activities that I remember was just talking to my peers about different topics and it was really nice.

This method was proposed by Charles Curran, it focuses on speaking and states that peers are needed to learn with and from them and I totally agree!

The cool thing about classes that use this method is that nothing is prepared so that everything can flow naturally and I think it is really nice because you can just talk about any other topic with your classmates just like in any other conversation so you don't actually realize that you are learning by just talking in groups.

Another cool thing about the Community Language Learning method is that it uses authentic material, meaning that it is not designed for teaching purposes, for example, the Grammar Translation Method uses the bible for students to practice translation and in this method our teacher was mentioning that podcasts can also be pretty useful for students to learn.

When using the SWOT method, my classmates and I concluded that a strength about the Community Language Learning is that you make many new friends and you feel supported while learning, a weakness is that people who like to work individually might not like this method, and opportunity is that you get to increase your vocabulary and improve your social skills while discussing interesting topics and threat is that it can be distracting and it also takes too much time from the class.

Last Thursday we got intro groups and we had to talk about different topics, my group decided to talk about the Zodiac and it's a shame that I forgot to take pictures and videos but we had so much fun discussing a topic that we liked and then discovering all the different vocabulary and sentences you can use when tlaking to someone else about the Zodiac, also, we found out that teacher Orlando's birthday is on February 14th and he is an Aquarius!
